Annette Markham

FLL Director, Utrecht University

Annette Markham is currently Professor of Media Literacies and Public Engagement in the department of Media and Culture at Utrecht University, Netherlands. She researches the lived experience of datafication and digitalization, through the lens of digital ethnography, interpretive sociology, and symbolic interactionism.

Ani Encheva

FLL Research Assistant, Utrecht University

Ani’s research focuses on the relationships between lived experiences, emerging technologies and the historical, current, and future dynamics of higher education. She is currently working on her Master’s thesis, which investigates how the disruption brought by Generative AI can be leveraged as a threshold moment to radically reimagine, redesign, and reinvigorate pedagogical practices.

Taylor Annabell

Postdoctoral Researcher, Utrecht University

Taylor is a postdoctoral researcher studying platform governance, influencer culture and user practices. She is part of the focus area “Governing the Digital Society” and the ERC Starting Grant HUMANads, led by Catalina Goanta. Her current research focuses on (1) experiences and perspectives of governance in the creator economy; (2) mediation of Big Tech CEOs across platforms; and (3) governance of personal memory work in the AI era.

Karin van Es

Associate Professor & Project Lead for Humanities at the Data School and Centre for Digital Scholarship, Utrecht University

Karin’s work is situated at the intersection of television studies, software studies and critical data and algorithm studies. Her current research focuses on streaming video culture and industries. At CDH she leads interdisciplinary research projects with external partners and is part of the GenAI in Education Humanities taskforce.
